Revival: The 2002 - Chapter II
It's time for Chapter II of our project documentation for Performance Technic. In the last blog update, we left off right before the car was sent off to RJ's Paint Shop for a front end respray, plus light touch ups all around the car. The majority of the damage was found at the driver's side of the Alpina front lip. There was some pretty severe cracking and separation happening, so RJ's took care of both paint and fiberglass.
Part I
We came in to photograph the process on the first day as they had begun sanding down the front end. The rest of the time was spent finishing up smoothing the fiberglass, sanding the remaining areas, and color matching paint with RJ's painter, Gabriel. The color matching took the longest of all, as this color was tricky to nail down. Not being exactly a factory color, and having heavy metallic elements, this paint required test run after test run to make sure the final product was an exact match.
Part II
The next day, we returned to photograph the remainder of the prep work, and the process of painting the car in the booth. We would like to thank RJ's Paint Shop for agreeing to help out with this project, and for hosting us to document this portion of the Revival. Stay tuned for the next chapter, where we'll go over the final stage of the 02's journey to show you the finished product. Thanks for following along!
